![]() The braces used in our office are called the Damon™ brackets. These brackets are self-ligating brackets; in other words, we do not need to use elastic rings or tiewires to hold wires in place like other "conventional" braces. The Damon braces have sliding doors that open and close to hold the wires in place. By eliminating the elastic ties, we can dramatically reduce the friction between the braces and the wire, allowing us to use optimal (very light) forces to move teeth in a more biologically compatible environment. By using these very light force levels and allowing the teeth to freely slide along the wires, teeth tend to move more quickly, thus dramatically reducing treatment time. In addition, because we are using lighter forces, patients experience greater comfort levels throughout treatment. ![]() The new D3 bracket was designed to incorporate all of the superior qualities of the D2 bracket while reducing the amount of metal show, creating a more attractive and aesthetic bracket for some of our patients. The typodont below illustrates the esthetic advantage that the Damon 3 (D3) has when compared to "conventional" braces with elastic ties. ![]() With the Damon system, the results that can be achieved today are far better than just a few years ago. We are now able to create beautiful smiles in a much shorter period of time without the need for rapid palatal expanders and most often without permanent tooth extraction. In addition to creating beautiful smiles, most patients are able to notice a change in their face. We call this the "magic of the midface". The Damon system allows us to create full arch forms and broader smiles that give more support to the midface, creating not just a beautiful smile, but a look that's more youthful and dynamic. And the best part is, adults can experience these same results in relatively the same time frame!
Back to Top Damon System Questions & Answers Are all braces the same? The Damon bracket is not just a brace, it is an entire system composed of self-ligating brackets and high-technology archwires. With the Damon system, we do not just straighten the teeth, but create beautiful smiles accounting for the patient's face, profile, and periodontal tissues. The Damon system concentrates on creating results for a lifetime, taking into consideration what patients will look like in 20,30, or 40 years. How long will treatment take? Treatment times are case dependant but with the Damon system, treatment times have been dramatically reduced. In addition, your treatment can be completed with far fewer office visits. Will my teeth be sore after adjustments? Again, the Damon system combines passive self-ligation brackets with high technology wires. This system enables us to move teeth more efficiently with lighter, more biologically sensible forces. This low force-low friction system means that discomfort after adjustments is dramatically reduced. Again, this varies between patients but the majority of patients experience very little discomfort. What about adult treatment? This is one of the most exciting areas that the Damon system has been able to accommodate. With conventional braces, adult treatment often takes two years and beyond. With the Damon system, the adult dentition is responding in a manner similar to that of children! This is very exciting for us and for the adult population, especially because more adults are seeking orthodontic care now more than EVER. In fact, around 30% of our patient population is adults. The Damon system is able to provide our adults with a more dynamic smile and youthful look. View the Damon Patient Presentation Visit the Damon™ System Website Back to Top |
